The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has issued a bulletin declaring that unauthorized retailers currently selling Cannabidiol oil are required to immediately cease the sale and remove the product from their premises.

The bulletin states that CBD oil is made from the cannabis plant and is thus captured under the definition of cannabis in the federal Cannabis Act and the provincial Cannabis Control Act.

Only licensed cannabis retailers are permitted to sell such products and at this time the only licensed retailers is, of course, the Ontario Cannabis Store.

This clarification is an important one for retailers in our industry as lottery is such a valued channel. Store that continue to sell CBD oil would be doing so illegally and the AGCO requires all lottery retailers to remain in compliance with the law.
