Report From Healthy Kids Panel Appointed By Government of Ontario

Ontario has an ambitious goal to reduce childhood obesity by 20 per cent over five years. Achieving this goal will help to keep Ontario healthy and is part of the Ontario government’s Action Plan for Health Care.

By helping kids and their families lead healthier lives today, we can decrease the chance kids will be overweight or obese when they get older.

Obesity can lead to diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart disease, and costs Ontario’s health care system $4.5 billion.

Successfully meeting our target will require partnership across all sectors including health care leaders, non-profit organizations, and industry.

That is why Ontario has created a panel of experts to recommend how we can keep more kids at healthy weights.

The Healthy Kids Panel conducted its deliberations from May to December 2012, and submitted its report, No Time to Wait: The Healthy Kids Strategy, to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care in March 2013.
