Tax Verification Needed for Alcohol Permit Renewal

Tax Verification Needed for Alcohol Permit Renewal

Attention Ontario Convenience Store Owners: Don’t Miss Your Liquor Licence Renewal – Important Tax Step Now Required

If you sell alcohol in your convenience store and it’s time to renew your liquor licence, there’s one important step you must complete before you apply:

👉 You need a Tax Compliance Verification (TCV) from the Ontario Ministry of Finance.

What’s New?

The TCV requirement has been in place since July 1, 2023, but there was a temporary exemption for first-time applicants. That exemption does NOT apply to renewals.
So, if you’re renewing your licence, you must complete this step.

What Is a Tax Compliance Verification?

It’s a simple document that shows:

  • You are up to date with your Ontario tax returns.

  • You have paid your taxes (or have made payment arrangements).

  • You’re not behind on your federal business taxes (if you have a business number).

This rule comes from Ontario Regulation 746/21, Section 14.

✅ How to Get Your Tax Compliance Verification

Follow these simple steps:

1. Go to the Ministry of Finance website

Visit:  https://www.services.fin.gov.on.ca/OTP/Gentax/_/

2. Fill out the short form online

You will need:

  • Your legal business name

  • Your business number (if you have one)

3. Receive your TCV by email

You’ll get a PDF document. Save it — you must upload it with your liquor licence renewal application.

📅 Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

Without your TCV, your licence cannot be renewed.
Get this done early to avoid delays.

Keep your store running smoothly — get your tax verification now and renew your licence on time!
