Convenience Stores to Sell Beer-Wine-Ciders September 5, 2024

With the announcement today from Premier Ford that convenience stores will be able to sell beer, wine, cider, coolers and ready to drink products as of September 5, 2024, there is a LOT of information that you need to know.

The OCSA has been working diligently with the AGCO, LCBO, Ministry of Finance, as well as beer, wine and other alcohol providers to ensure that independent retailers are prepared for selling alcohol in the near future.

The OCSA will be answering all of your questions regarding licensing, product selection, product ordering, delivery returns and age testing.

Convenience stores will be able to sell on September 5, 2024
  • Beer, wine, cider, ready-to-drink (spirit based) and ciders.
  • All pack sizes – individual, 6-12 & 24 pack
  • 20% in EVERY category must be produced in Ontario (beer, wine, cider, rtd)
  • Less than 50% of the store square footage can be alcohol.
  • Must have alcohol responsibility training
  • Must be 19 or older to touch, stack, move or sell alcohol.
  • No sampling
  • No shelf fees or listing fees
  • Distribution will be via LCBO agents (outsources)
  • You must sell in the packaging that you ordered (meaning you can’t break open a 24 pack and sell the individual units).
  • Online sales I have to dig deeper into
  • Store hours 7:00 am – 11:00pm
  • Can’t use loyalty programs as payment or partial payment of alcohol
  • No free or discounted merchandise to entice people to buy
  • all alcohol must be displayed together and not throughout the store
